After the pandemic and numerous lockdowns all over the globe, the new list 2021 of the most peaceful countries in the world, is a useful tool for all of our canyoning friends. Least to most peaceful countries

Starting from the least peaceful country in the world which is Afghanistan – for the fourth year in a row – Yemen, Syria, South Sudan and Iraq follow, as moving up to the countdown.

The top and most peaceful country in the world is once more: Iceland. New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal and Slovenia follow the rank, at the top five positions.

Global Peace Index (GPI) report

According to the latest Global Peace Index (GPI) report for 2021, the world is not as peaceful as before. Political instability and civil unrest have increased as a result to the global insecurity of covid-19 outburst and the various measures taken by each government. As a unique of its kind statistic tool, the GPI report ranks 163 countries and covers 99% of the world’s population. The index of the report is produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). The level of safety and security in society, the extent of domestic and international conflict and the degree of militarisation are the main three broad themes that measure global peace.

Definition of peace

It is true that defining peace is somewhat difficult. However the “harmony achieved by the absence of violence or the fear of violence in a society” is the approach mindset of IEP. As the vaccinations continue, travelling is still challenged. Therefore please follow all safety instructions given by your country’s authorities before setting for your canyoning excursion abroad.
